What I Wish I Knew in My Early 20s

If I could sit down with my younger self—messy bun, big dreams, and a constant feeling of being “behind”—I’d offer a few gentle truths I’ve learned along the way. Your early 20s feel like a strange in-between chapter: half adult, half kid, fully confused. But looking back, it was also the decade that planted the strongest seeds for who I’d eventually become.

First, I wish I knew that nobody else actually knows what they’re doing either. Everyone looks confident on the outside, but inside they’re worried, comparing, second-guessing—just like you. The moment you realize this, life feels a little less intimidating. You stop thinking you're failing at adulthood and start realizing you’re simply learning it.

I also wish I understood the value of slow progress. In my early 20s, I wanted everything immediately—a perfect career, a solid plan, a sense of purpose. But meaningful things grow quietly. Every job, every awkward attempt, every small project teaches you something that eventually connects in ways you can’t predict.
